Wednesday 29/07/2009 (08:20-23:59L)
July’s visit on another very hot and sunny day. Temperatures in the mid-30s caused a number of hangar doors to be open affording tempting glimpses of their inhabitants.
The ZIEGLER DC was operating close to capacity, and included what was to become the 1,000th A330/340 family delivery, in the form of A330-343E MSN1035, HS-TEP for Thai Airways International.
The midfield apron long home to the unwanted Kingfisher A340-500s, now hosts three A330-200s originally allocated to Gruppo Marsans/ Aerolineas Argentinas. Each is now in deep storage configuration.
The number of stored A320s also continues to grow with MSN3990 joining 3748, 3882 and 3952 at St. Martin du Touch.
Over at the A380 site, MSN0051 F-WWAH has emerged, and the first example for Lufthansa was noted on the FAL about to have its engines installed.
A record number of ATRs were noted, partly due to open doors, demonstrating the continued healthy demand for the type. As is to be expected, the majority of frames were either unmarked or positioned so that their identity could not be confirmed. All have, however, been noted for completeness in this log.
Two tours were taken to afford access to the main Airbus plant at St. Martin du Touch, although with construction of the A350XWB FAL now visibly picking up pace the Air France Concorde has been repositioned away from the heart of the action. This has reduced the number of viewing opportunities i.e. the rear of the ATR DC, Station Carburant and the A320 FAL area are no longer possible. That said the tour is still worthwhile for anyone without access to a car.
